With the method that we will be discussing below, you can port TWRP recovery for all latest devices of MT67XX. This includes the devices MT6735, MT6735M, MT6737, MT6737M, MT6752, MT6753, MT6755 / helio P10, Helio x10, Helio p20, helio X20, helio x25, MT6797, and MT6795. We will provide you with a relatively easy way to Port TWRP for MediaTek 64 bit MT67XX devices and that too in a step-by-step manner. The only thing that you need to make sure is that your SoC is mentioned here. You can then follow the guide that we have provided below.
What is ROM Porting?
The porting of ROM is nothing but modifying the ROM of a device to be compatible with some other device. For ROM porting, you will need the stock recovery and the recovery which you want to port to for this. Here, we are going to modify TWRP recovery for MediaTeck chipset devices. This is similar to using the ROM of Device 1 on Device 2. For example, using Google Pixel UI ROM on a Samsung Galaxy S8 device. Pretty cool, isn’t it?
Adapting a Custom ROM (or firmware) or Stock ROM (or firmware) of one device and make it compatible to work on a custom ROM (or firmware) to another is not rocket science. It can be achieved with few simple tweaks. Look into the specifics mentioned in the step by step guide for any MTK devices.
How to Port TWRP for MediaTek 64 bit MT67XX?
Requirements
- The concerned Stock and Port Recovery (as mentioned above)
- Image Kitchen tool. You can download the Image Kitchen Tool for Android.
Follow the steps provided below to Port TWRP for MediaTek 64 bit MT67XX devices:
- Open carliv.bat batch file.
- Copy your device’s stock ROM’s recovery.img and paste it in the “recovery-resources” named folder that is located inside the unzipped folder.
- In the Carliv Image Kitchen window, type in R and press enter. Next, type 1 and hit enter again.
- Type 1 to unpack the image file that you downloaded earlier.
- If you get a message, “Your image is unpacked in recovery folder”, you have successfully unpacked the image file.
- Now open the recovery folder in the Carliv unzipped folder. Look around for a folder named “ramdisk” and 10 other files.
- Create a new folder somewhere and name it “stock” (you can name it anything you want). Copy and paste all the contents from the “recovery” folder (ramdisk folder and all 10 other files).
- Next, delete the recovery.img file that was left behind on the “recovery-resources” folder before.
- Also, delete all the contents in “recovery” folder.
- Copy and paste the custom recovery image file, the TWRP that you want to port into the “recovery-resources” folder.
- You will need to repeat the same steps as before to create the files on “recovery” folder and create a new folder that you can name “port” (you can name it anything you want). Transfer all the contents of “recovery” folder to the port folder (or a name of your choice) that you created.
- Delete the files on “recovery” folder but never delete the custom recovery image in the “recovery-resources” folder.
- Open both the stock and port folders and keep them on your desktop screen side by side.
- Copy the “recovery.img-kernel” and “recovery.img-kernel_offset” from the stock folder and paste it to the port folder. Overwrite it to replace existing files with the same name.
- Then open the “ramdisk” folder on both stock and port folders.
- Copy and paste or replace the files that we mention below from stock’s ramdisk folder to port’s ramdisk folder: fstab, meta_init.modem.rc, meta_init.project.rc, meta_init.rc and ueventd.rc.
- Copy all the files and folder on “port” folder and paste it into the “recovery” folder in the unzipped Carliv folder.
- In the Carliv Image Kitchen window, type 2 and hit the enter key.
- A message notifying that the image file was repacked will appear. You can view it on the output folder named “output”. This is the brand new TWRP ported image file.
- Copy the newly made image file from the “output” folder and paste it to a new folder. Rename it as you want with any name of your choice.
- Copy the scatter file of your stock ROM and paste it in the same folder as the ported TWRP image file that you just created.
- Now, open the SP Flash Tool and flash it.
That’s it! You are done. You have successfully ported TWRP for MediaTek 64 bit MT67XX devices!
